Bayhydrol® UV toolbox for UV-curable waterborne systems
The combination of positive market relevant properties led to the current outstanding market position of waterborne UV-curing polyurethane (PU) coatings. They exhibit extremely fast curing and high productivity, and emit fewer volatile organic compounds (VOCs) than conventional solvent-borne coatings. Furthermore, they are highly resistant to chemicals and mechanical influences. Covestro offers a broad range of UV-curing polyurethane dispersions (PUDs) for the formulation of primers and clear or pigmented coating systems. The latest development is Bayhydrol® eco UV 2877, a multi-curing bio-based PUD. In addition to conventional UV curing, it is also capable of oxidative self-crosslinking. This leads to higher process safety in shadow areas or in case of inhibition due to UV absorption from pigments, as it enables coatings to achieve outstanding resistance and hardness even in areas that receive little or no UV light. In addition this product can accelerate the coating process up to 50% thanks to faster drying.
